Choosing Francois to be our photographer was easily one of the smartest decisions we made as we prepared for our wedding. It was also one of the easiest, for after viewing Francois’ website portfolio we knew instantly that his fun, unconventional, and creative style of photography was exactly what we wanted for the big day. It was also a pleasure to work with Francois, and even though we planned the event from over 3,000 miles away in California, he was always available to us and we never felt out of touch. And the final images? They are fantastic and surpassed even our high expectations.

Francois is a real talent, a super nice guy, and we strongly recommend his services.

The Image Mill was created as part of the festivities surrounding the 400th anniversary of Quebec City. Following the success of the 2008 edition, the work has been extended for another five years. There will be three phases of creation over these years; in 2009, 2011 and 2013.

“Because of its geographical location, urban planning and its history, Quebec City is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Extremely photogenic, it was first mapped and then drawn, engraved, painted, photographed and filmed. We have invented a mill that transforms, animates, presents and celebrates the 400 years of images of Quebec City. The images are almost all taken from archives that carry us as far as when Samuel de Champlain first drew Quebec City. “Robert Lepage

Le Moulin à images est une projection architecturale produite et réalisée à Québec par Robert Lepage et Ex Machina. Représentant la plus grande projection jamais accomplie, elle nécessite l’utilisation de technologies de pointe afin de diffuser une profusion d’images et de films sur les silos à grain du Vieux-Port de Québec, un écran surdimensionné de 600 mètres de large par 30 mètres de hauteur! Laissée entre les mains des créateurs, cette immense masse de béton se transforme à l’infini, nous donne l’étrange impression d’être vivante, de nous parler. Sortant des clichés habituels, c’est tout le récit de la ville de Québec qui nous est ainsi raconté. On y découvre une histoire commune fascinante avec ses bouleversements, ses controverses, ses grands moments politiques et populaires.

Le Moulin à images a été créé dans le cadre des festivités entourant le 400e anniversaire de Québec. Forte de son succès, l’œuvre a été reconduite pour cinq années supplémentaires. Il y aura trois phases de création au cours de ces années, soit en 2009, 2011 et en 2013.

« Par sa situation géographique, son urbanisme et son histoire, Québec est une des plus belles villes du monde. Extrêmement photogénique, elle a d’abord été cartographiée, puis dessinée, mise en gravure, peinte, photographiée et filmée. Nous avons inventé un moulin qui transforme, anime, met en scène et rend hommage à ces 400 ans d’images de la ville de Québec. Les images sont presque toutes tirées d’archives qui nous transportent aussi loin qu’à l’époque où Samuel de Champlain dessinait Québec. » Robert Lepage
